Excellency:

With reference to your letter dated August 25, 1995, regarding the activities of the CEPCIES/CEPCIECC Joint Working Group, I am pleased to report to you that the activities of the Group were reinitiated on September 14, 1996. At that meeting, a working document proposing a methodology for organizing the principal activities to be carried out by the Group was presented, This document contains a M of priorities as well as a Strategy for accomplishing the goals related to resolutions AGMES.1314/95 - Inter-American Cooperation for Integral Development, and AG/RES.1354/25 - Partnership for Development and Elimination of Poverty, mandated by the General Assembly. During subsequent meetings, hold on the 21st and 28th of this month, the document was extensively discussed, amended according to the views expressed by the delegations, and adopted by consensus.

The Group will keep you updated on the development of the activities related to the transition to the now cooperation system, which Include the implementation of the Managua Protocol's reforms to the OAS Charter, as well as the General Assembly's mandates relevant to this matter. In the meantime, please consider this letter as an Interim report of our activities to date.
