Forum gathers 500 Workers’ representatives of the Americas

The Workers’ Forum of the Americas took place on April 15-16 in Port of Spain, with the participation of more than 500 workers’ representatives. It was organized by the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (TUCA) with the objective of enhancing the capacity of the labor movement in the Americas to respond to the global crisis. During the Forum, workers debated the economic, food, energetic and financial dimensions of the crisis, its impact on employment, labor rights and labor’s perspectives on sustainable development in the region.

Important leaders of the labor movement in the Americas attended the Forum, along with personalities such as the United States Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis, the OAS Secretary General, Jose Miguel Insulza and the OAS Executive Secretary for Integral Development Alfonso Quiñonez. At the end of the event, workers approved a Declaration that they presented to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs in the Dialogue Held April, 17, 2009, in the framework of the Fifth Summit of the Americas.
