Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI)

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) is a financial institution for the development, promotion and implementation of economic integration in Central America.  It was founded in 1960 by Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica to promote regional integration and development.  The Bank has grown, with the incorporation of Mexico, the Republic of China (Taiwan), Argentina and, more recently, Colombia, as extra-regional partners.  Its headquarters are in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and it also has regional offices in each Central American member country.

The CABEI has as its mission to foster progress and integration on the isthmus and to sponsor equitable and environmentally friendly economic growth, through the support of public and private programs and projects that generate productive employment and contribute to the improvement of productivity and competition, as well as elevate the human development index in the region.

The CABEI provides funding for important projects in diverse sectors: telecommunications, energy, infrastructure and transportation, agriculture, housing, tourism, social development and environmental conservation.

The objective of this regional bank is to attract financial resources available in the global capital markets towards Central America in order to: stimulate the private sector; support privatization; improve the competitive advantage of regional economies; increase exports; modernize regional infrastructure; and improve the social conditions of the citizens of the region.
