Resolutions approved at the XXXIV OAS General Assembly, Quito, Ecuador
(June 6-8, 2004)

The thirty-fourth regular session of the General Assembly in Quito, Ecuador, addressed a wide range of issues. Among them, a few points related to the advancement of health in the region. One example of this is in the Resolution on Poverty, Equity, and Social Inclusion (AG/RES 1983 XXXIV-O/04) (link). This resolution endorsed the Declaration of Margarita (adopted in October 2003), in which the Ministers pledged to “place priority on eradicating hunger, accessing adequate food and potable water, and ensuring access for all to basic social services, with special attention to quality education and the health care safety net.”

Another resolution related to health is the one about the White Helmets Initiative (AG/RES 2018 XXXIV-O/04) (link), which promotes effective coordination with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in cases of natural disasters.
