...that the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) was launched to combat the drug trade and other transnational crimes that threaten citizen security? This initiative which grew out of the Fifth Summit of the Americas was developed in collaboration with CARICOM Member States, the Dominican Republic and the United States and complements the Merida Initiative in Mexico and Central America. Since its inception, the CBSI has provided training for law enforcement officers throughout the region, strengthened the capacity of regional defense and provided training and employment alternatives for at-risk youth.
