Did you know...

...that the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) was launched to combat the drug trade and other transnational crimes that threaten citizen security? This initiative which grew out of the Fifth Summit of the Americas was developed in collaboration with CARICOM Member States, the Dominican Republic and the United States and complements the Merida Initiative in Mexico and Central America. Since its inception, the CBSI has provided training for law enforcement officers throughout the region, strengthened the capacity of regional defense and provided training and employment alternatives for at-risk youth.

Paragraph 72, Fifth Summit of the Americas: “We will increase our efforts to prevent and combat all aspects of the global drug problem and related crimes, with strengthened international cooperation and an integral and balanced approach based on the principle of common and shared responsibility, in accordance with the principles enshrined in the United Nations and OAS Charters, international law and our applicable legal frameworks…”
