Did you know...

...that Uruguay recently launched the National Rural Health Program to help improve the quality of life and health status of its rural population? The beneficiaries of this program are persons living in communities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, including the dispersed populations of Uruguay - 590,039 people or 18.21% of the total population of the country. The Program aims to provide universal access to quality comprehensive health care and to ensure its continuity through a network of services, with stakeholder participation and intersectoral coordination. By helping to reduce the inequality of access to services and also migration and depopulation of the countryside, this program is preserving a culture that is and has been instrumental in the development of the country.

Ministry of Public Health

Paragraph 26, Fifth Summit of the Americas: “We recognise that the problem of inequality of access to comprehensive health care and health services persists, especially among vulnerable groups. We therefore commit to redoubling our efforts to promote social protection and to identify and implement strategies to advance towards universal access to quality comprehensive health care…”
