During its first year, the partnership spawned over a dozen initiatives targeted toward a clean energy future. These include the Global Shale Gas Initiative: South America, the Central American Energy and Environmental Security Initiative (EESI), and the ECPA Caribbean Initiative among others. The OAS functions as the ECPA Clearinghouse, organizes Ministerial and other meetings, and operates as a liaison for the ECPA initiatives and projects.

Paragraph 56, Fifth Summit of the Americas: “…in order to advance hemispheric energy cooperation, we instruct our Ministers or pertinent national authorities, in a spirit of partnership, to develop cooperation strategies that will promote access for our people to reliable, efficient, affordable and clean energy, especially for the poorest sectors, and foster sharing of best practices and experiences, with a view to increasing energy efficiency, diversifying energy sources and minimising environmental impact...”
