Did you know...

...that the Government of Barbados is actively working to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels through the implementation of sustainable energy and energy conservation initiatives? The Sustainable Energy Framework, developed with assistance from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), promotes renewable applications such as solar energy, wind power and bioenergy. Approximately 40% of all residences in the island have solar water heaters and this technology has also been transferred to other Caribbean countries. These initiatives would eventually represent $283 million in electricity costs savings over the next 20 years and a reduction of CO2 emissions by more than 4.5 million tons.

Paragraph 45, Fifth Summit of the Americas: “...We will aim to develop cleaner, more affordable and sustainable energy systems, to promote access to energy and energy efficient technologies and practices in all sectors. We will aim to diversify our energy matrices by increasing, where appropriate, the contribution of renewable energy sources, and will encourage the cleaner, more efficient use of fossil fuels and other fuels.”
