...that the Government of Barbados is actively working to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels through the implementation of sustainable energy and energy conservation initiatives? The Sustainable Energy Framework, developed with assistance from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), promotes renewable applications such as solar energy, wind power and bioenergy. Approximately 40% of all residences in the island have solar water heaters and this technology has also been transferred to other Caribbean countries. These initiatives would eventually represent $283 million in electricity costs savings over the next 20 years and a reduction of CO2 emissions by more than 4.5 million tons.
