Did you know...

...that the next Summit will be held in Cartagena, Colombia in April 2012? The host country defines the themactic framework and then negotiations take place among OAS Member States via the Summits Implementation Review Group (SIRG) to gain consensus. Additional consultations are carried out with various stakeholders of the Summits Process, such as multilateral institutions and social actors.

The next meeting of the SIRG will take place on December 9, 2010 in Washington, D.C.

Other interesting facts:

Indigenous Peoples are active participants in the Summits Process.

This participation is via the Indigenous Leaders’ Summits of the Americas (ILSA).
The last ILSA (III) was held in Panama, in April 2009.
A follow-up meeting of the III ILSA will be held in Ottawa, Canada, on December 13, 2010 with representatives from North America and the Caribbean.
The next Sub-regional meeting for Central and South America will be held in early 2011.
