Did you know…
…that the population of
Peruvians over the age of 60 has tripled in the last 35 years? According to national statistics, 2,712,000 persons, or approximately 9% of the total population, are senior citizens. With the aim of reducing income vulnerability and to support senior citizens in maintaining dignified living standards in Peru, the
Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion, along with the support of the
Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), launched the monetary transfer program "Pension 65". This program provides financial grants to those seniors over the age of 65 who do not receive any benefits or money transfers and who live in districts with extreme poverty. This program will benefit about 150,000 senior citizens by the end of 2012, and over 290,000 in 2013.
