First Summit—Miami, USA 1994The Summits of the Americas bring together the democratically elected Heads of State and Government of the Western Hemisphere to discuss common concerns, develop a shared vision for the future development of the region, and seek solutions to problems and challenges confronting their countries, be they economic, social or political in nature. Seminar on the Mechanisms of Indigenous Peoples’ Participation in the OAS The indigenous theme has been the object of multiple General Assembly resolutions and debates in the framework of the Summits of the Americas. In the Summits, the Heads of State in the hemisphere have sought the complete and equitable protection of indigenous peoples and have reaffirmed the necessity of promoting a common vision in order to better the lives of the indigenous and facilitate their participation in the inter-American system. The Seminar took place to present the mechanisms through which indigenous peoples are able to participate in OAS activities and to promote a dialogue to deepen the understanding and integration of indigenous peoples in the OAS.
Summits Virtual Community (SVC) Officially Launched The SVC was officially launched during the Meeting at the Ministerial Level of the Summit Implementation Review Group (SIRG). The SVC is an online community that provides an ongoing discussion on the progress made, the challenges being faced and the regional collaboration in place towards implementing the mandates and commitments of the Summits of the Americas. Summits of the Americas Follow-up System (SISCA) National Reports and Executive Summaries Member states submit National Reports and Executive Summaries, which are designed to give an overview of the methods adopted in implementing and reporting on the actions they have taken or will take to implement the commitments assumed at the previous Summits of the America. |
