The Summits Secretariat participates in consultative dialogues with parliamentarians of the Americas ahead of the 10th Summit

The Summits of the Americas Secretariat actively participated in meetings and dialogue sessions organized by the hemispheric network Parlaméricas, held in Washington, D.C., United States, on March 25 and 26, 2025, to strengthen regional cooperation in preparation for the Tenth Summit of the Americas and to follow up on the implementation of mandates adopted at previous Summits. These events brought together parliamentarians from throughout the region to exchange perspectives and proposals on the challenges of human security and the importance of multilateralism and coordination in this area.

During these sessions, parliamentarians discussed how national governments of the Hemisphere, together with national parliaments and other intergovernmental and non-governmental actors, can work to implement collective solutions to multidimensional security challenges.

The Director of the Summits of the Americas Secretariat, María Celina Conte, opened both sessions, setting the stage for the discussions and underscoring the importance of incorporating parliamentary perspectives into multilateral efforts and the implementation of adopted mandates. During her remarks at the second session, which involved a consultative dialogue between parliamentarians and Permanent Representatives to the OAS, she stressed that “parliaments and their representatives have an essential role not only in the preparatory phase of the Summits, but also in the implementation of the mandates adopted by the Heads of State and Government”. She added that “parliaments are key to translating agreements into laws, public policies and concrete initiatives to strengthen regional cooperation and security in the Hemisphere.

The dialogue sessions were conducted in an interactive format, with alternating interventions among the participants. In both events, various strategies were discussed to advance the construction of a multidimensional security agenda, identifying areas of cooperation and proposing practical solutions to the region's shared challenges.

The Tenth Summit of the Americas, to be held in December 2025 in Punta Cana, will focus on building a secure, sustainable Hemisphere of shared prosperity. In this context, the Summits Secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to continue working together with the Chair of the Tenth Summit, the participating States and other key actors to ensure that the Summit is an inclusive and effective space to advance the hemispheric agenda. Likewise, the Secretariat will continue to work closely with ParlAmericas and other intergovernmental actors to help the Tenth Summit promote concrete actions towards a more secure, sustainable and prosperous Hemisphere.
