As part of the preparatory work for the Tenth Summit of the Americas, the Summits Secretariat carried out an official mission to the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on October 7-8, 2024. During the visit, meetings were held with representatives of the government of the Dominican Republic, in its capacity as the Chair of the Summits Process, as well as with civil society organizations and social actors.
The mission, which included Secretary for Hemispheric Affairs, Amb. James Lambert, Director of the Summits Secretariat, María Celina Conte, and Summits Secretariat Officer, Jennifer Molina Vrolijk, included working meetings with the Summit Chair, during which preparations for the Tenth Summit were discussed. Key topics included the organization of upcoming meetings of the Summit Implementation Review Group (SIRG); coordination of contributions and technical work of the Joint Summit Working Group (JSWG) organizations; and efforts to strengthen the participation of civil society organizations and social actors in the Tenth Summit process, which will take place in Punta Cana at the end of 2025.
The working meetings also addressed efforts related to the thirtieth anniversary of the Summit of the Americas. The Summits Secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to supporting commemorative activities for this significant milestone, highlighting the fundamental role the Summits have played in consolidating hemispheric cooperation.
As part of the mission, an in-person information session was held with more than 30 civil society organizations and social actors from the Dominican Republic. The event, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) facilities, provided an inclusive and diverse space where key issues related to the participation and influence of these actors in the Summit Process were addressed. The session promoted active and enriching dialogue, strengthening cooperation and inclusion of various sectors in the discussions leading up to the Tenth Summit.
