In the recent months, the Summits of the Americas Secretariat has held a series of training workshops at the national level on the Summits of the Americas Follow-up System (SISCA) in order to provide technical support for the use and implementation of this System. With the immense support from the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Summits of the Americas Secretariat held its fourth Training Workshop on Thursday, June 10, 2010 in Lima, Peru.

The training sessions, which took place in the facilities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were inaugurated with a speech by Minister Juan Del Campo Rodríguez, Director General of the UN and Multilateral Policy. Officials from the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended, and more than 15 Institutions of the Peruvian Government were present.

In addition, the Workshop included presentations from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) and the “Presidencia del Consejo de Ministros” (PCM), which provided information about the national strategies for the development of Peru and national statistical information.

In the workshop, information was shared with the participants about the use and implementation of SISCA as an online tool that provides mechanisms for the Member States to follow up on mandates and commitments made in the Summits of the Americas. The information added to the System by participants communicates the national strategies that the Government of Peru is promoting in the different sectors of the country in order to fulfill Summit commitments.

Thanks to the contributions that the participants will make to SISCA, under the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peru will provide timely, relevant, and updated information on follow-up to the commitments agreed upon by the Heads of State and Government of the Member States of the OAS.

More information about SISCA can be found in the link: http://www.summit-americas.org/sisca.html
