Continuing the series of Training Workshops of the Summits of the Americas Follow up System (SISCA), a presentation and national workshop was held at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Quito, Ecuador on August 25th, 2010. The workshop, a joint effort by the Summits of the Americas Secretariat and the Summit Follow-Up Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador was attended by over 35 representatives of the different ministerial institutions of the country. The event was opened by Dr. Rafael Quintero, Assistant Secretary of Multilateral Affairs, Ambassador Alfonso Lopez, Director of the Summit Follow-up Unit, and Ambassador Antonio Aranibar, OAS Representative in Ecuador.

The workshop provided training to its attendees on how to use the system’s tools and its implementation, and stressed the importance of following up on the commitments agreed to by the Heads of State and Government of our region. Additionally, presentations shared by the Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), the Information System for Democratic Governance (SIGOB) and the National Development Plan by SENPLADES contributed to a better understanding of the system.

Ecuador expressed its support to the Summits Secretariat and also committed to facilitate the use and implementation of SISCA in Ecuador. The OAS Office in Ecuador agreed to provide local support to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which will coordinate the implementation of the system.

It is expected that Member States will present to the citizens of the hemisphere, its progress, achievements and challenges through this results-based online tool which also has an extensive database of thematic documents and related links.

Similar workshops will be held in Suriname, Guyana, Barbados and Mexico in the coming months.
