Dominican Republic Announces Theme for X Summit of the Americas

On February 20, 2025, at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS), the first meeting of the year of the political body of the Summits of the Americas Process, the Summit Implementation Review Group (SIRG), was held, focused on the presentation of the theme chosen by the Chair of the Summits Process for the Tenth Summit of the Americas. The Summit, which will take place in December 2025 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, will address the theme "Building a Secure and Sustainable Hemisphere with Shared Prosperity".

The Summit will bring together the Heads of State and Government of the countries of the Hemisphere, who will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the Americas. This high-level event will address human security from a multidimensional perspective, focusing on key areas such as citizen, food, energy and water security. The leaders are expected to agree on commitments and actions to strengthen hemispheric security and promote sustainable and prosperous development for all.

Context of the Theme: Challenges and Opportunities

The Tenth Summit of the Americas comes at a key moment, when the region faces multidimensional security challenges. Despite economic advances, the Americas continue to struggle with high levels of poverty, inequality, and violence. Citizen insecurity, organized crime, and the effects of climate change are growing threats that require a coordinated and multilateral response.

In this context, according to the Chair of the Summits Process, the Dominican Republic, the proposed theme seeks to strengthen regional cooperation in human security, sustainable development and shared prosperity. It recognizes that only through joint work will it be possible to face these challenges and move towards a future of opportunities for all. As Ambassador Rubén Silié, Chair of the SIRG, pointed out in his opening remarks, "the Tenth Summit of the Americas can make a significant contribution by strongly raising the need to build security. These are a fundamental pillar for sustainable development by providing the necessary environment for people to live with dignity, freedom and opportunities for growth."

A Summit for Dialogue and Action

The Dominican Republic, as host country of the Tenth Summit of the Americas, reaffirms its commitment to provide a space for dialogue between Governments, the private sector, civil society and multilateral organizations. This collaboration will be key to defining and implementing public policies and cooperation programs that respond to current challenges, including security and sustainable management of natural resources.

The Summit will be an opportunity to strengthen hemispheric consensus and partnerships, promoting regional cooperation in solving common challenges.
