PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES: Education

The GS/OAS Office of Education and Culture (OEC) has supported member‐state governments, with additional technical and financial support from UNICEF, the Bernard Van Leer Foundation, member‐state donors, and other international and civil society organizations, in Early Childhood Education. The World Bank is providing technical assistance in several areas of Early Childhood Development with a number of clients in the region. Beyond its technical assistance to client countries, the World Bank is coordinating a region‐wide community of practice to facilitate dialogue between policy makers and across countries and sectors.

Regional Education Indicators Project (PRIE) The Regional Education Indicators Project (PRIE), established in the Summits Process as a mechanism for assessing the progress of OAS member states toward achieving Summit educational goals, is preparing the publication “Educational Panorama 2010” with a special focus on member state progress toward the Summit commitment of 75% enrolment in secondary education with a goal of 100% by 2015, and continues to publish indicators of participation in tertiary education.
